The story of the Wimbledon Whizzers
The team was established in February 2008 - and we entered out first Starters tournament after only 5 weeks of training.
The first BFA Open tournament we entered was the Chiltern's Show in July 2008.
In January 2009, we hosted
our first BFA Sanctioned tournament, the Wimbledon Whizzers Winter Warmer and then another in May 2009.
Together
with our friends from the Lightning Strikes team, we entered a couple of teams into the European Flyball Championships 2009,
in Belgium, where we came second in our division.
The Wimbledon Whizzers won Division 16 of the 2009 BFA Summer
championships.

Our thoughts about flyball
We think that Flyball is suitable for all manner of dogs. Flyball is one sport which fully engages the dogs mentally
as well as physically. We aim to train every dog to get the most out of the sport at whatever level is appropriate for that
dog. For some dogs, that will be to compete alongside the fastest teams - for other dogs it will be merely to enjoy the weekly
training sessions. The most important aspect of flyball is the dogs.
Flyball is also a team sport, and we aim to
engender a great team spirit. We want to be inclusive and open to anyone who is interested in dogs.
Flyball
is a competitive sport, and will enter teams into tournaments where we can race competitively against teams from around the
country. Of course winning races is great - but we never lose sight of the fact that we are doing this for the dogs
(who don't tend to care whether they win or lose).
Being a part of a team racing at Flyball is one of the best
feelings in the world - but don't just take our word for it - ask the dogs!

The Team Captain
Team captain and founder of the Wimbledon Whizzers - Ray Lewis, with Bramble (Labrador X Border Collie)
Ray
came to Flyball after having concluded that by merely throwing tennis balls in the park for Bramble to retrieve, this
was not really addressing the dog's needs. Ray joined the Four in the Fast Lane Flyball team in 2006, and within 4
months, Bramble was competing at Open tournaments.
In February 2008, Ray decided to start his own team, and the
Wimbledon Whizzers was born.
